Robert Franzini is a printmaker and draftsman and resident artist at the Rowan County Arts Center. Born and raised in California, he developed an early love of drawing that led him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Stanford University.

After graduation, Franzini worked in a variety of positions while continuing to create drawings and prints, utilizing print facilities at Wichita State University, Indiana University, and Grand Valley State University. He later earned both a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, where he studied printmaking and drawing for four years and served as a teaching assistant, instructing college students in the elements of art.

Franzini began his academic career with a one-year appointment in printmaking and drawing at the College of William & Mary before accepting a tenure-track position at Morehead State University. Over the course of thirty-five years at MSU, he taught art foundations, life drawing, and intaglio, relief, and lithographic printmaking. He also served as Chair of the Department of Art and Design for eighteen years before retiring.

Throughout his career, Franzini has exhibited extensively in regional, national, and international exhibitions, with work shown in more than 400 venues. He has been a resident fellow at the Yaddo artist colony in Saratoga Springs, New York, and has taught at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China.

Franzini and his wife, Carolyn, raised three children in Morehead. In addition to his studio practice, he has maintained a longstanding commitment to music, singing with the TruTones A Cappella group for more than thirty years and performing with the MSU Trombone Ensemble and the North Wilson Avenue Brass Quintet.
