Nona Camuel is a watercolor and acrylic artist and resident artist at the Rowan County Arts Center. Based in Rowan County, she is also a mother, grandmother, and part-time bookseller at CoffeeTree Books. She has studied watercolor for more than seven years and continues to explore the medium while expanding her practice in acrylic painting.
Camuel’s work can be seen throughout the community in public art projects, including a quilt square bench at the Rowan County Public Library, a mural section on the side of Fat Patty’s, a zendoodle turtle at the entrance of UK St. Claire Hospital, and artwork displayed in the halls of the Rowan County Preschool.
Although largely self-taught, she has participated in numerous classes and workshops led by artists including Linda Brewer, Wayne Willis, and Yvonne Baldwin. She has shared her love of art through teaching in Rowan County Adult Education classes and as an instructor at RCAC Art Camp. Her work reflects a lifelong enjoyment of drawing and painting and a strong commitment to community engagement through the arts.
